Ken & Corine Brown

Position:
Oral Bible Stories
Serving in:
South Africa
Working in northern Mozambique with the Makhuwa-Nahara in the area of Oral Bible Translation and Scripture Engagement:
We disciple Makhuwa-Nahara Muslim-background believers who help others engage with the Bible and come to know Jesus as their Savior. We produce radio dramas based on the Scriptures our team has translated orally (like the book of Luke) for broadcast on local radio stations. Our team encourages members of various Bible story discussion groups, distributes oral Scripture on SD cards, and shows practical love to the wider community in times of crisis. As a Scripture Engagement consultant, Ken will help train translation teams to find culturally relevant ways to promote the use and application of Scriptures to the lives of their people group. He has also been involved in training various Bible translation teams in other languages to translate the Bible orally. Corine supports Ken's work, is involved in a weekly soup kitchen, and is able to help care for her frail and aging parents since we’re currently based in SA, working mostly by remote.
Tell us a bit about your family
We have two wonderful children, Fin and Faira.
What are some of your hobbies and interests?
Ken enjoys gardening, hiking and birdwatching. Corine enjoys reading, music, art and poetry. We both love the sea and mountains, and enjoy playing squash and table tennis.
What is something you enjoy about being part of WSA and/or Bible Translation?
It is wonderful to see the joy on the faces of people hearing the Bible in their heart language for the first time. We really appreciate WSA’s focus on the oral orientated bibleless peoples of Africa, giving them access to the Word of God and helping them engage with it.
