Andy & Debbie AbbotT

Position:
Translation, literacy and Bible teaching
Serving in:
Southeast Asia
We have been working among the M* people in Southeast Asia since 2006. Our aim is to help the local church grow in their knowledge and understanding of God’s Word and thus become mature disciples of Jesus Christ. In order to achieve this goal we are directly involved in Bible translation and Scripture-use activities.
In 2018 the New Testament was dedicated in the northern dialect of the M* people. We helped develop a complete literacy and Scripture-use programme in the vernacular, which takes illiterates from the pre-reading stage to simple Bible Study.
Anyd's primary focus now is in equipping the M* people to translate the Old Testament using the oral storying method. Debbie is busy teaching a modular two-year pastor training course for pastors from remote villages as well as continuing a foundational Bible class for the community.
Our life goal is based on Colossians 1:28 (NKJV), “Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.” We have been members of Wycliffe internationally for over 25 years; working first in Kenya among the Rendille people and then in Southeast Asia. We are excited about being part of an organisation that prioritises accessibility for minority people groups to have access to God’s Word in a form that speaks to their heart and brings life-change.
We have three adult children and three grandchildren. Andy enjoys photography and reading. Debbie enjoys art and gardening.
