It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sean Mooney, our outgoing Board Chair, who served with us for 10 years.

"So sad to receive the news that the previous Board Chair of Wycliffe South Africa, Sean Mooney, passed away yesterday. I had the joy and privilege of serving under Sean's leadership and he was a great encouragement and humble man who loved Jesus and loved people. He was totally dedicated to his family and loved them dearly. He was so proud of his first grandson. The last time we visited on 28 March, Sean made the effort to come and sit with us and spend time to hear about the Board meeting. He was tickled by the video of the new Board Chair, Gerhard Marx, as he blew the shofar before we celebrated shabbat together. Sean, you were an exemplary leader and great example of selfless dedication to God. Rest in His shalom..."

"Brother Sean was such an inspiration to us, especially within the Resource Mobilisation Team. He gave his all to support us - walking with us through our growth journey and the hurdles we faced.
I remember his labour of love in our weekly meetings - how he would show up inspite of being Chair of the board. He would show up in-person at an operational level, not to dominate, but to humbly listen and offer wise, steady counsel. He shared his networks generously, opening doors for the work. His consistent monthly financial support to Wycliffe SA spoke volumes, and at times he went even further with sacrificial, one-off large financial gifts.
What a generous and humble leader - what a great example to emulate.
His impact was real, and his legacy lives on. We listened, we learned, and we will continue what he poured into us. May God comfort and strengthen his family and friends during this time. He has run his race and has finished strong."

He will be sorely missed, but I am deeply grateful to have known him."
