Mozambican Mosaics: A Journey to Remember
By Alan Webster

Some journeys leave tracks on the ground. Others leave an imprint on the heart.
A recent visit to Mozambique was one of those journeys. While our team travelled to encourage Bible translation partners, they soon discovered they were the ones being encouraged. Amid dusty roads, long distances and unexpected challenges, they encountered communities whose greatest treasure is an unshakeable faith in Jesus and an overwhelming joy in receiving God's Word in the language of their hearts.
From 27 June, Hennie and Rina Blomerus, together with Carol van Heerden (Finance, Member Care and Field Coordination), joined Bia Jeronimo of The Seed Company to visit Bible translation programmes across Mozambique. The journey was anything but straightforward. Flight delays, rough roads, closed regional borders and even a fuel shortage threatened to disrupt the itinerary. Yet every obstacle became a prayer request, and every answered prayer a fresh reminder of God's faithful provision.
Wherever they travelled, they found people eager to hear and engage with Scripture. Translation teams spoke of lives transformed, hope restored and communities strengthened through God's Word. In several areas, local leaders and government officials have welcomed the translated Scriptures, recognising their positive impact on families and society.
Every visit became a celebration. Communities greeted the team with singing, dancing, Bible stories and joyful worship. The unmistakable presence of God was evident as people shared what it means to encounter Jesus through Scripture they can truly understand.
One unforgettable highlight was the Run for the Bibleless, organised by the Marenje translation team. More than 2,000 people participated in bicycle races, fun runs and a community march celebrating the gift of God's Word. One participant shared:
"Before we heard God's Word in Marenje, we thought God had abandoned us. But when our leaders translated His Word, we realised He has never abandoned us. Now we can sing our songs and hear God's Word in our mother tongue. Thank you so much!"
The team was also grateful to spend time with colleagues Jadreque, André Raul, Benedict and Isabel, as well as dear friends Boni and Busie Paulo. Their faithful ministry is bearing lasting fruit as more Mozambicans encounter Christ through Scripture.
Like intricate mosaics, God is taking broken pieces—of lives, communities and even a nation marked by hardship—and fitting them together into something beautiful. Across Mozambique, each translated verse, each song of worship and each transformed life adds another piece to the picture of His redeeming love.
