The Ovakwandu live on the Serra das Neves mountain plateau near Camucuio town in Angola, mainly on their ancestral lands, with some displacement due to civil war or employment. They are subsistence farmers who rely on the land and livestock for survival. The Ovakwandu were first exposed to the Gospel by missionaries in 1995, yet traditional religion and syncretism remain widespread. Many have not developed a personal relationship with God. Poverty, harsh living conditions, and inter-ethnic conflict continue to challenge their wellbeing. Bible translation can strengthen believers, reach the unreached, and promote unity and reconciliation within and between communities.
