The Ovahumbi people live in rural villages near Camucuio town in Angola. Heavy seasonal rains can cause flooding that isolates the area. Daily life centres on caring for livestock, crops, and children. Of the three Camucuio language groups, the Ovahumbi are the most developed and have encountered the Gospel since at least 1995. Christianity is sometimes blended with traditional beliefs. Poverty and intergroup conflict have caused divisions, even within churches. Encouragingly, younger Christians are increasingly open to unity across ethnic lines, aided by oral Bible stories in heart languages.
